If you want to make sure that your house is well protected from wind and water, your house wrap overlap must not be less than 6 inches and even then, you should tape the seam. This is the only way to be sure that you've made a weather-tight bond.

Can you staple Tyvek house wrap?

Tyvek says you can use 4 staples per 9 feet of house wrap if you tape over them an apply the siding right away. But a cap stapler is better. Apply house wrap up the gables before installing exterior trim, even if the attic is not conditioned.

Can you use blue Tuck tape on Tyvek?

No. Duct tape is not designed to be used with Tyvek^® sheet.

Can I use 2 layers of Tyvek?

There is no problem with doing this. Housewrap is "breathable" by design so you won't trap moisture anywhere. You could build a wall with ten layers of housewrap and it would be more durable, not less.

Can house wrap have wrinkles?

Adhesion problems may occur if the application of the tape is over a damp or dirty surface or if the ambient temperature is too cold. Wrinkling and adhesions in the tape can lead to water and air intrusion.

The most important part of weatherproofing begins before the window goes in. After the house wrap is cut, tuck the bottom flap into the house and install sill flashing. Then fold in the sides of the house wrap, but leave the top flap alone.

DuPont™ Tyvek® wraps can be installed UNDER or OVER exterior foam insulation. The DuPont™ Tyvek® wrap should be installed on the same plane as the window flanges to allow for the most effective installation.

Can you sew Tyvek?

You CAN sew Tyvek, but 1) it will leak, 2) it will tear on the stitch lines. If you hand sew it – as you did – you may have used a whip stitch which is the best one to use on Tyvek. The glue to use is either Barge's cement or plain old Duco household contact cement.

A: You can write or paint on Tyvek^®. General water-based pens are suitable for washable needs, alcohol-based pens are suitable for permanent writing or graffiti-art, and acrylic pigments are also suitable for painting on Tyvek^®.

Can I use duct tape instead of Tyvek tape?

Duct tape won't cut it; it's too porous. We used the Tyvek and it's worked well so far. Don't use it on hard wood floors as painter's tape; it'll rip the polyurethane right off of the floor (lesson learned).

Is blue Tuck Tape better than red?
