No, it's not. It's a discrete numerical variable. Numerical variables are quantitative. In opposition, a categorical variable would be called qualitative, even if there's an intrinsic ordering to them (e.g. an ordered categorical variable).
Is population categorical or numerical?
Quantitative variables are numeric. They represent a measurable quantity. For example, when we speak of the population of a city, we are talking about the number of people in the city - a measurable attribute of the city. Therefore, population would be a quantitative variable. Is number of siblings categorical or numerical?
The number of siblings and student height represent numerical variables. Because the number of siblings is a count, it is discrete. Height varies continuously, so it is a continuous numerical variable. What is an example of categorical?
Categorical variables represent types of data which may be divided into groups. Examples of categorical variables are race, sex, age group, and educational level. What are three examples of categorical?
In comparison, categorical data are qualitative data types. Some examples include: name, hair colour, qualification etc.The Meaning of Numbers – Categorical Data (1-2)
Is age categorical or numerical?
One question that students often have is: Is age considered a qualitative or quantitative variable? The short answer: Age is a quantitative variable because it represents a measurable quantity. Is number of children quantitative or categorical?
Number of children in a household is a quantitative variable because it has a numerical value with a meaningful order and equal intervals. Is number of siblings nominal or ordinal?
Discrete variables can be nominal (sex), ordinal (class rank), or I/R (number of siblings). All these variables are discrete because the values of these variables can- not be subdivided or reduced. A respondent may, for instance, have 1 sibling, but she cannot have .Is student number qualitative or quantitative?
Is a student number qualitative or quantitative? Quantitative data are the result of counting or measuring attributes of a population. Amount of money, pulse rate, weight, number of people living in your town, and number of students who take statistics are examples of quantitative data. What is example of quantitative variable?
Quantitative Variables. As discussed in the section on variables in Chapter 1, quantitative variables are variables measured on a numeric scale. Height, weight, response time, subjective rating of pain, temperature, and score on an exam are all examples of quantitative variables. Is phone number qualitative or quantitative?
Numbers like national identification number, phone number, etc. are however regarded as qualitative data because they are categorical and unique to one individual. Can numbers be categorical data?
Numerical ValueBoth numerical and categorical data can take numerical values. Categorical data can take values like identification number, postal code, phone number, etc. The only difference is that arithmetic operations cannot be performed on the values taken by categorical data.
